“In football, VAR discussions have become controversial. FIFA has taken action on this issue and granted approval to a major European league.”
VAR discussions will be broadcast in the stadium. José Fontelas Gomes, the president of the Arbitration Council of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), applied to FIFA, believing that everyone should hear the dialogues that lead to controversial VAR decisions in the country’s football.
FIFA granted authority to the Portuguese Football Federation in this matter. José Fontelas Gomes will announce this decision in a meeting next week, which will also be attended by representatives from FIFA and IFAB. A similar practice was implemented in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. If the implementation is successful in Portugal, it will be recommended for adoption in other elite leagues as well.
